PGSO Music Director Michael Hall will be leading the orchestra in a bold new direction at their upcoming mainstage performance. “It’s so important to connect with new audiences,” says Hall, “and one of the ways is by taking some of the mystery away from classical music. This is music for everyone, and I hope this concert will show that.”
The performance will focus on Mozart’s great Symphony No. 40 in g minor and include a multi-media presentation by the maestro. He will provide insight into the circumstances around the writing of symphony near the end of the composer’s life as well as pointing out what to listen for to understand the structure of the piece. The live orchestra will provide examples of the music as he goes, and the concert will conclude with a full performance of the symphony with visual signposts so the audience can follow along.
“It’s not a lecture,” clarifies the maestro. “This will be an engaging look into the inner workings of this
masterpiece. Whether you’re brand new to orchestra music, or if this is one of your favourite symphonies, I think you’ll find this is a great way to experience the piece.”
